OpenSuSe is one distribution that I have used for sometime but gave it up because of its heavy and slow throughput.
It is very slow to boot up because of the KDE that takes up lot of memory.
It is beautiful but sometime has problem with grub and fills the temporary (tmp) partition fully, if you happen to download many files like what I do.
That is one reason I changed to PCLinux which tends to remove unnecessary tmp files at boot up.
In any case it is necessary for Linux distributions to be up and running over 24 hours for some cron jobs to run (midnight jobs) at least once a week.
SuSe has a very good partition manager which I like very much.
YasT is yet a another set up and teaching tool for Linux newbies.
I have been using suse linux for a few years now.
it runs good. and I have learned how to install and uninstall programs with it.
was easy enough to work with music, mp3's and DVD's.
net working was a little difficult to set up but that is due to my own lack of knowledge. was able to get it set up and working.
I have done enough to totally mess this operating system up but it kept running good.
with a few other different linux operating systems, they have locked up or would not boot anymore. unlike Suse linux it would keep on going.
